Owensboro, KY -- Old Crow Medicine Show returns to the ROMP stage. With a recent induction to the Grand Ole Opry Hall of Fame, and their newest record, Remedy, set to release July 1st, Old Crow Medicine Show has come a long way from busking on the streets of New York City to make their second appearance on the ROMP stage.
Their boundless energy and spirit have been key to winning the affection of audiences everywhere. They caught the attention of folk icon Doc Watson, who immediately invited the band to play at his MerleFest, helping to launch their career. Shortly thereafter the band relocated to Nashville for a residency at the Grand Ole Opry, where they entertained the crowd between shows.
It's been nearly fifteen years since these humble beginnings, and the band has gone on to tour the world, sell over 800,000 albums, become frequent guests on A Prairie Home Companion, and play renowned festivals including ROMP. The Wood Brothers join the ROMP family. From early in their childhood in Boulder, CO., Chris and Oliver were steeped in American roots music. Their father would perform classic songs at campfires and family gatherings, while their mother, a poet, instilled a passion for storytelling and turn of phrase. The brothers bonded over bluesmen like Jimmy Reed and Lightnin' Hopkins, but their paths, musical and otherwise, would diverge. After pursuing separate musical careers for some 15 years, the brothers performed together at a show in North Carolina. It was then they decided to join forces.
In October 2013 the Wood Brothers released their fifth and latest studio album, The Muse; recorded in Nashville, TN where the brothers now call home. Their music is finding it's way into the hearts and homes of people across the world, and it's no surprise ROMP fest found them. They take the stage Thursday, June 26.
ROMP is a production of the International Bluegrass Music Museum. All income from sponsorships and ticket sales benefits the only museum in the world dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the history, artifacts, collections and recordings of bluegrass music internationally. ROMP: Bluegrass Roots and Branches Festival is held at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro, Kentucky. Throughout the festival one can enjoy workshops, jamming, child activities, and all-night-after-parties. Arts and Crafts Artisans make the festival grounds visually beautiful with handmade clothing, jewelry, toys, instruments and artwork for sale. Owensboro's best chefs are routinely joined by other creative food vendors, providing a wide variety of culinary offerings. Festival attendees also receive free admission to the International Bluegrass Music Museum. ROMP is the largest annual fundraiser for the Bluegrass Museum.
